Mission Statement
Hearts Unleashed is committed to changing the system of animal welfare by tackling the root causes of neglect, overpopulation, and abandonment through rescue, education, advocacy, and community-driven solutions that protect animals and hold communities accountable.
Our Story
Hearts Unleashed was founded in 2025 by a volunteer who stepped into a struggling shelter environment and did whatever it took to help—pulling animals to safety, coordinating rescues, supporting medical care, and rallying the community. What started as a small group of advocates quickly became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on action, not just intention.
Through that work, one thing became undeniable: the system itself is broken. Shelters are overwhelmed not because of lack of effort, but because of deeper issues—overpopulation, limited access to resources, and a lack of consistent standards and accountability.
Hearts Unleashed was meant to stay small and stay in one place but never silent. Today, we operate independently, focused on tackling those root causes through rescue support, education, partnerships, and advocacy. Our mission is no longer tied to a single shelter—it’s driven by a commitment to create real, lasting change for animals in South Carolina.
Where We Are Now
Hearts Unleashed has evolved into an independent organization focused on solving the root causes of animal population and shelter overcrowding. Our work extends beyond and single facility, allowing us to respond more effectively, build stronger partnerships, and create programs that drive long-term change.
We are focused on action - supporting rescues, expanding access to spay and neuter, providing resources to communities, and advocating for solutions that improve how animals are cared for at every level. Our commitment remains the same: do what is needed to create better outcomes for animals, wherever that work takes us.
